A majority of the projects that our firm undertakes are conducted using the design / build method. This project delivery system as opposed to the traditional design-bid-build system, is preferred for many reasons; such as cost effective design, faster project delivery, and single source of responsibility.

Cost Effective Design:

R. B. Hughes Corporation prefers to enter into a project in the early stages, when the owner is still formulating his or her own ideas. At this point a design / build "team" is formed. This team, consisting of the client and R. B. Hughes Corp., meet to discuss a wide range of issues that will effect the overall design; from how the particular business logistically flows to desired finishes and aesthetic appeal. Because the designer is also the builder, the client is provided with accurate building costs during the design stage. The main goal is to produce a cost effective design, as it has been our experience that a well developed plan saves money in the field.

Faster Project Delivery:

By virtue of its configuration, the design / build approach lends itself to a fast tracked delivery. In many instances, the design of the building can be progressing while permits are being sought and/or construction work is beginning. While the traditional method is time consuming, design / build provides for a smoother, faster transition between design and construction.

During construction, design / build also has its advantages. Because the builder is also the designer, project coordination is on a much more simplified and efficient level, without compromising quality or thoroughness.

Single Source of Responsibility:

R. B. Hughes Corporation as design / builder, provides its clients with everything that is needed to get the job done. Lines of communication are tighter, allowing for more interaction and greater efficiency between our company, our clients, and our subcontractors.

Designing to the Price, not Pricing to the Design:

The best price for a project is not found during the bidding process, but rather in the design process. At R. B. Hughes Corporation, we charge the industry standard labor and material costs plus a fair profit, we determine the clients budget and design to that budget. This eliminates the needless time and expense of the bidding process, and allows the client to reap the rewards of value engineering, cost effective design, and efficient construction.
